Description

SO I worked over this picture a bit becasue the first version (The White Princess) had some flawes.
Painting snow with the correct light effects is quite difficult and next time I will use some references. Lately I try to work without them, I have always the fear that I would copy too much and I am sometimes too proud to use one. It feels kind of cheap but on the other hand how should I learn, right? So it seems I am not ready to work without reference..... I took an other cheap way and painted what I think looks good XD .
Also I think I still have the problem that the picture is not as sharp as I want it to be. For this picture I used the painting brush basically.
You can compare both versions and tell me what you think about it. Also I have to say its the second time I use the Autodesk SketchBook programm and its the first picture with a total backround. I am still practising on backround because in the past I avoided to paint them totally ^^. Depending on what you think about the two pictures I will maybe work over it again. I think I am too close to this drawing at the moment so that I cannot see other errors.

Do not copy or reuse this drawing without permission.

I'm not entirely sure why you seem uncertain about this work.

True, the character design and setting are not the most unique. But the design is still very strong and very striking - everything seems to be epic in scale, and the mammoth has a lot of presence and weight to it. The splashes of red and the blank, piercing eyes on the woman also really make the image more haunting and creepy. So while it's not EXTREMELY creative, the vision is still very strong.

The atmosphere of the picture is incredible - you've really made the forest look cold and eerie. You seem concerned about its realism, but don't be. The snow (especially the snow on the bushes and trees) is not particularly accurate, and though some may see this as a problem, I think it actually serves this picture well. The snow on the branches seem much more like balls of ice than snow resting on leaves. However, it blends into the rest of the picture much better this wayl. It mixes with the woman's sharp-looking hair, the ice, and the snow on the ground more effectively than it would if it looked like grainy, packed clumps. The work is fantastic.

Also, the end of the mammoth's nose looks like a disturbed owl. That's always a good thing.
